Life safety and uptime, managed as one

In a data center, the same discipline protects both the technician and the SLA. PS&M delivers safety consulting built for mission-critical environments — arc flash and NFPA 70E programs, lockout/tagout that respects redundancy, and contractor safety management for live-site retrofits — from people who understand that "shut it down first" is not always an option.

What does a data center safety consultant do?

A data center safety consultant controls the risks where electrical energy, thermal systems, and continuous operations converge — arc flash exposure, hazardous energy, confined and restricted spaces — while protecting the facility’s real product: availability. PS&M audits conditions, builds the programs, trains the teams, and staffs the high-risk windows.

Training for operations teams and contractors

  • Electrical safety and arc flash awareness aligned with NFPA 70E — boundaries, labels, PPE, and energized work discipline
  • Lockout/tagout procedures engineered for redundant, live-critical systems
  • Confined and restricted space work in battery rooms, crawl spaces, and utility vaults
  • Emergency response and evacuation mapped to your floor plan, suppression systems, and no-unnecessary-EPO reality
  • Hot work, fire prevention, and housekeeping that keep fire load and trip hazards out of critical space

Consulting for mission-critical facilities

Safety and health audits scoped to general industry and electrical requirements, arc flash documentation review, LOTO and confined space program evaluation, facility safety assessments across white space, MEP rooms, rooftops, and docks, plus incident investigation and root cause analysis when an event threatens people or reliability.

On-site coverage for the risky windows

New builds, live retrofits, commissioning, and vendor-heavy periods each concentrate risk. PS&M supplies site safety officers and safety managers who understand mission-critical pace — onboarding, insurance, and documentation carried by us.

If your facility runs 24/7, so does the exposure. Start the conversation and we’ll scope it around your operations, not against them.

FAQ

Questions we hear

How do you handle lockout/tagout on systems that can't go down?

With engineering-grade planning. Data center LOTO means isolating the component under maintenance while documenting why redundant paths keep the load safe — method-of-procedure discipline, energized work justification under NFPA 70E where isolation is infeasible, and permits that satisfy both OSHA 1910.147 and your uptime requirements. Improvised isolation is how facilities produce both injuries and outages.

What does an arc flash program for a data center include?

Incident energy analysis and equipment labeling, boundary and PPE requirements aligned with NFPA 70E, energized work permit procedures, and training that makes technicians fluent in reading the labels they walk past daily. We audit existing studies too — facilities that have expanded since the last analysis are usually working from stale labels.

Can you manage contractor safety during a live-site retrofit?

Yes — that is where we spend much of our data center time. Construction crews working feet from live white space need orientation, permits, escort protocols, and daily oversight tuned to the facility. PS&M provides embedded site safety officers for commissioning windows, retrofits, and high-activity periods, so vendor risk never becomes facility risk.

Do you work inside high-security facilities?

Routinely. Our professionals operate under badging, escort, NDA, and background-check regimes, and our documentation practices respect customer confidentiality requirements. Discreet, professional presence is part of the service — your clients should notice the safety performance, not the safety staff.
