Fewer injuries. Zero excuses. Lines still running.

Manufacturing risk builds quietly — a bypassed guard here, a workaround there, production pressure everywhere. PS&M delivers plant-focused safety consulting that finds those drifts before they become amputations, citations, or downtime. Built by people who have worked production floors, not just walked them.

What does a manufacturing safety consultant deliver?

Control of the hazards that stop plants: machine guarding assessments with practical fixes, machine-specific lockout/tagout programs, chemical exposure and HazCom compliance, ergonomics that reduces claims instead of producing binders, and facility audits that find what an OSHA inspector would — before the inspector does.

Training built for the floor

  • Machine guarding and safe operation for operators, maintenance, and supervisors
  • Lockout/tagout for authorized and affected employees, on your equipment
  • Forklift and powered industrial truck certification and refreshers
  • HazCom and chemical safety aligned with your actual inventory and SDS library
  • Industrial hygiene awareness — noise, dust, and exposure basics for supervisors
  • New-hire safety orientation that embeds expectations from day one

Consulting that respects production

Risk assessments and mitigation planning, safety management systems tuned to your processes, written programs and SOPs that match how work is actually done, ergonomic evaluations, respiratory protection support with fit testing, and confined space program reviews for tanks, pits, and mixers.

Embedded safety coverage

Plant safety managers for ongoing leadership, area-level safety officers for high-risk operations and turnarounds, and temporary safety staff for audits, expansions, and staffing gaps — employed, insured, and managed by PS&M.

Production pressure never takes a shift off. Neither should the program. Request a consultation and we’ll scope it to your plant.

FAQ

Questions we hear

What does a manufacturing safety consultant focus on first?

The hazards that maim — machine guarding and hazardous energy control. Amputation-class exposures around presses, conveyors, and automated cells sit at the top of both OSHA's enforcement priorities and our assessments, followed by chemical exposure, powered industrial trucks, and the ergonomic load that quietly drives most claims dollars.

Can you write machine-specific lockout/tagout procedures?

Yes — that is the difference between a LOTO policy and a LOTO program. OSHA 1910.147 expects equipment-specific energy control procedures, annual inspections, and training for authorized and affected employees. We develop the procedures at the machine, photograph the isolation points, and train the crews who will actually use them.

Will audits and training disrupt production?

They are scheduled not to. Audits run around shift patterns and line schedules; training splits across shifts and breaks into production-compatible blocks. Most of our manufacturing work happens without a single line stopping — the point is protecting throughput, not interrupting it.

Do you support customer and insurance audits?

We prepare you for both — written programs, training records, JHAs, and OSHA logs organized and current, plus mock audits before the real ones arrive. Strong safety documentation shortens customer audits and gives your broker something real to negotiate renewals with.
